Firefighter Roadmap:
Firefighter Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Class C or higher US driver’s license (CA required by time of hire)
- EMT or Paramedic License (National Registry or California)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
- Valid CPAT (other physical agility tests may be accepted)
- Passing score on the written exam
Firefighter Compensation:
- EMTs $118,344—$141,907
- Paramedics $131,317—$154,879
- Ideal schedule: 48 hrs on, 96 hrs off
- Six 48 hours shifts of paid time off per year
- Family paid health coverage up to $2375.72/month
- Defined pension (CalPERS)
- Retiree medical funds
- Continuing education funds
