Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent

- Class C or higher US driver’s license (CA required by time of hire)
- EMT or Paramedic License (National Registry or California)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
- Valid CPAT dated after 7/1/2022 through 9/5/2023 (other physical agility tests may be accepted)
- Upcoming tests:
- Livermore: 5/19/23, 6/2/23
- Sacramento: 5/25/23
- South El Monte: 5/25/23, 6/8/23
- Passing score on the NTN written exam dated after 7/1/2022
- Virtual testing options available daily
- San Jose: 5/20/23
- San Mateo City College: 6/10/23 (proctored by the District)
Process Tentative Timeline:
- Application period- 5/22/23-6/8/23 https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/menlofire
- Video based interviews- 6/20/23 All candidates meeting all minimum requirements will be invited to participate in our video based interviews. Candidates will be sent set questions and have 2 weeks to submit their videos online. No props or special backgrounds will be allowed.
- In-person interviews- week of 8/7/23 Top candidates from the video-based interviews will be invited to panel interviews.
- Chief's interview- between 8/21/23-9/1/23 Top candidates from the in-person interviews will be invited to interview with the Fire Chief.
- Conditional offers- sent 9/5/23
- Backgrounds- conducted by a 3rd party for the next 6 weeks
- Medical exams- Candidates will be referred to Kaiser for physical exams
- Final offers- sent 12/4/23
- Registration for Academy- Candidates with final offers will register College of San Mateo for the Fire Academy
